Just decided to cough up $45 for an annual subscription to feedly - it's making my life useful on a daily basis.
I've decided that it's worth doing, especially if my contributions support many of the free users.
That; and I caught myself writing a feature request to get an RSS feed of my google+ streams, so I don't miss content, in feedly.
