Last.fm vs Google Music Trends

Google Talk just got a 'show my music' feature; like MSN has and like mIRC scripts have been doing since the dawn of time.

I wonder
  • Is it easy to do what google talk has done as; say; a gaim plugin?
  • Does the jabber protocol have features for this?
  • How hard would it be to do a last.fm / audioscrobbler plugin that submits to google music trends?
  • How hard would it be to make the google talk client know what songbird is playing?
  • How hard would it be to make songbird export XSPF?

I'm loving the google music trends, though I really don't know why...I guess it just gives me another reason for me and my friends to use Google Talk :P

As far as your questions:
Is it easy to do what google talk has done as; say; a gaim plugin?

I'd have to say yes...have you opened up WinAmp, Windows Media Player, or any of the other supported players on your computer? I noticed in WMP, in the "Plugins" tab there is a "Google Talk Music Plugin" under the "Background" area. Though there are no "properties"...I havent looked though, to see where this "Plugin" is saved...but it doesn't look like it's saved in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\....

Does the jabber protocol have features for this?

No idea really tbh :P I'm guessing though, if someone "cracked" the plugin format, they could embed the google talk/music trends plugin into one of the many Open Source Jabber clients...to maybe even include Gaim.

How hard would it be to do a last.fm / audioscrobbler plugin that submits to google music trends?

No idea hehe. I think it would be best for Last.fm to "stay out" of that territory though...using an audioscrobbler plugin to submit to google music trends could be a "bad" idea, if AS/last.fm didn't get permission from google first...know what I mean? But yea, I think it would be awesome if google added music trend support for hte last.fm client software...hehe

How hard would it be to make the google talk client know what songbird is playing?

Not sure hehe. As above, would probably be best just to submit a feature request/suggestion through google talk or google's help groups, for songbird support.

I wish that was available on normal media players so badly!
Amazing idea
