Wanted: Embedded Gaim in Google Desktop Sidebar

I want to ditch google talk from my sidebar and go with integrating gaim-vv into it. Why would I, horror of horrors, want to stuff it into an activex component?

Mainly so that I can make it slide off screen when I don't need it!

Now, writing an activex wrapper for oodles and oodles of C is beyond poor old me, but this might be a worthwhile python project: render a buddy list in GDS from gaim.

Any updates on this? This really should be implemented, and i can't see why it's not possible.

Thanks

gaim in GD is an obvious winner. it fits nicely with google's linux support strategy. it would bring other developers into the gaim fold. it would keep the sidebar uncluttered. win-win.

Honestly, does anyone see this in the near future? Could anyone pass these comments on to Google, the GAIM team, or anyone who could write such an addition to GD? Thanks!

I was Googling to see if a Gaim-GDS sidebar plugin was available and got here. It is of course a great idea, but unfortunately I didn't expect to find one and haven't yet. The development community must not be very big, because the variety and quality of plug-ins available is pretty weak. You're missing super-basic things like a *decent* calculator and a baseball scoreboard, things that were available on Apple Widgets from day 1 of Tiger (and probably Yahoo! Widgets too).
